Letting Go Of Grudges

Dear God,

By now, I believe I have discovered how ugly it is to harbor a grudge. It seems, that if I don't deal immediately with something that makes me angry, I begin to make the situation a lot worse than it already is.

Sometimes, when everything has gone in the opposite direction of whatever I have planned, I begin to have "pity moments" for myself. I look at everything my DS, DD, DH, and anyone else have done wrong and magnify it in an attempt to blame someone other than myself and to justify my bad attitude.

But You have told me that I should overlook the faults of others and that I should set aside my anger. Please help me do things Your way, Lord. I desperately need Your help in this...

Being Blessed Abundantly

Dear God,

Perhaps some people might just think that my quiet time reading for the day is not true. But I know oherwise. You, who are the truth, would never ever say something false in Your Word.

There are times when DS and DD want more of certain things than they could possibly need... I long for many material things... However, when we are all truly focused on You, the desire for wordly, material things we all want to have disappear. And then Your desires for us become our desires.

When I see my DS or DD share with others, like lending out a hand to those in need, or bowing their heads to pray, I know they are learning to honor You by doing Your will. They are also watching me as I do these things. Lord, please guide me to always point them to the right and perfect example that Jesus set for all of us.

Fear the LORD,

Having Great Faith

Dear God,

I wish I could say that I have great faith – but really, I often fall short. The mother described in my quiet time verse for today had enough faith to realize that it would take just a small amount of Your power to heal her demon-possessed daughter.

I'm afraid that too many times my faith is so shallow that I believe what I need done is going to require an enormous amount of power. I may even convince myself that my need is not important enough to bother You with. In doing so, I miss receiving and seeing Your blessings. I know You promised in Matthew 17:20 that if I would have faith the size of a mustard seed, I would be able to move a mountain with just a word. That's the kind of faith I want in my daily life. Please help me grow that kind of faith in me.

Let My Children See You In Me

Dear God,

You are the best example of what a loving parent should be. I know I am called to be Christ-like in all I do, and that includes my parenting style. Lord, please give me the strength and the wisdom to be the godly example that my DS and DD need to see, especially at home. I know that the life I live has a big influence on their attitudes that are developing concerning You.

Lord, I want to be instrumental in helping my two kids establish a close, direct walk with You. I clearly realize that in order for this to happen, I must be like You in every way. Please help me daily to renew my commitment to follow in Your steps. Thank You for being the example I need.

Growing As An Encourager

Dear God,

Whether I like it or not, I am an example to my DS and DD. But how many times have I failed to do what my quiet time verse for today commands? You know that I am not always patient, Lord... I don't take time to comfort or support those who need it most, and everytime, my kids are watching.

But every moment of my waking life, I want to improve. I want to tell my kids about the need to be there for others, to encourage in whatever way is needed. Your Word says I have to do this by example.

The little ways do count, Father. Please help me teach my DS and DD that to grow as encouragers, they can start with small things as they comfort others and build from there.

And we urge you, brothers and sisters,
warn those who are idle and disruptive,
encourage the disheartened, help the weak,
be patient with everyone.

The Fruit Of Righteousness

Dear God,

I cannot thank You enough for the promises and truths found in Your Word. I would not have believed it possible for myself to have such a change of heart. The day before yesterday was an ugly day for me at work. I was simply diappointed, devastated, angry at the whole world; even my DS and DD wouldn't want to stay close to me at home... But today, I am the sweetest, most loving parent any child would want.

I know that once again the sinful nature will rear its ugly head. My beautiful self will become tainted. I will be harsh, and affect other family members negatively again. I also know that my relationship with my kids will not be good when that happens. It will not be a joyful ride at home. It will hurt; however, Your promise will hold true once more. Thank You that Your Word is right every time, Lord. Each time life tests my boundaries, I can throw up the fence that You provide.

No discipline seems pleasant at the time,

Help Me See Them With Your Eyes

Dear God,

I did it again... Somehow, some people in the workplace said something to hurt my feelings. I acted polite, but then my hurt and anger boiled over. I can still see the wide-eyes of my DS and DD as they listened to my unkind words. How could I have actually "listed" down my gripes in front of them? Really now, I realize, I should have just spoken to You in private, Father...

Give me the wisdom to talk to my family about what I said. Perhaps that co-worker wasn't feeling well...? Maybe I misunderstood the intended meaning...? After all, how many times have I also allowed something to slip off my tongue without thinking...?

Lord, I want to be able to show my DS and DD the value of self-control and forgiveness. Please help me to see other people the way You see them.

Your Unfailing Love

Dear God,

Thank You for being so ever faithful. Thank You that each day Your love for me is always just the right amount to get me through the day. Some mornings I don't even want to open my eyes; I close them tight, hoping to squeeze out the fact that there is an undending number of tasks that await me.

I don't want to face the inevitable DS and DD fights that are just around the corner. For that matter, I don't want to think of the ordeal of trying to come up with a meal that both of them will actually eat.

When I face it from my perspective, I am overwhelmed, but when I remember that You are offering me Your compassion, I am renewed. I rejoice in Your faithfulness, Lord.

Wisdom From You

Dear God,

My DS and DD are not rich or wealthy. At least not by the world's standards... It's also not too likely that they ever will be as long as they're relying on us, their parents, for their income. I would not say that they are poor either, but, of course, these are not the things that should matter in this world... Listening to us and paying attention to wise counsel will definitely make both of them far better people than either wealth or poverty.

Lord, please give me the wisdom I need to properly advise my DS and DD. Please help me also teach and instill in their hearts and mind to always seek guidance from Your Word and in accordance with the Holy Spirit. DH and I may not be able to offer earthly riches, but we can always teach them Your truths, and that is what really counts. As our kids grow, Father, help them use wisdom from You.

Help Me Control My Anger

Dear God,

I know that in all my numerous foolishness and meaness, I have caused You so many reasons to be angry at me. But You very well know how to handle anger , and of course, ~~too many times~~ always, I don't... If my DS or DD disobeys, or if DH does something that annoys me, I have a difficult time controlling my temper. And ~~too often~~ always, I harbor a deep, wounding anger throughout the day. Believe me God, all I want and pray for, is for us to go to bed so we can start a-fresh the next day...

But Lord, instead of waiting for another day, I know that You want me to start fresh today -- even before the sun sets in the horizon... In Your infinite wisdom, You know that it will help my whole family if that happens. Please help me keep that in my mind and heart. Please lend me a hand so that I can handle anger the way You do. Help me not to lose my temper with my DS, DD, or DH, and please give me the grace to forgive today... Amen.

Casting Everything To You

Dear God,

If I completely trust You for my eternal and spiritual salvation, why don't I trust You for my daily needs? If I were totally honest, I would say that I defnitely know that I can do nothing about my salvation other than accept You as my personal Lord and Savior. But -- when it comes to my everyday, daily concerns, I often feel that there is something I can and should be doing...

A large part of it has something to do with my DS and DD. I feel that if I don't worry about them, and do something about it, they won't turn out right. I also know that in reality, my job is to pray everyday for them and bring them up according to Your Word. Then I must totally surrender them to You and trust You to do the work in their young lives.

Lord, please instill in me the peace and stillness that comes from casting all my cares on You.

Wisdom From Your Word

Dear God,

As much as I need Your wisdom in the many, everyday decisions I make (and face) concerning my family, I need it even more so for spiritual matters. Although I have been a Christian for many years, I still have many questions and also much to learn. As I read and study and hear about Your Word, still I need to receive a clear understanding of what You are saying to me through it.

Lord, I want the wisdom and the ability to discern and apply Your Word in my life, and I want to use it to teach my DS and DD. I know that it is Your will for me to understand Your Word, and I also know that You have given me the Holy Spirit to guide me. I pray hard that I will be able to take advantage of this great blessing to bless others around me.

The language I speak is not enough to tell You what I want to say fully. I cannot begin to find the exact words to thank You for the many successes I have and received in my life. You are truly awesome, Lord.

The victory this devotional verse tells me this evening is so amazing. I even pointed this out to my DS and DD -- that we don't have to rely on our own abilities or the abilities of others -- we only have to wait on You, Lord. You are truly the mighty One -- the only One who helps us triumph over the whole world.

There is totally no condemnation for us when we believe in You. The covering of the blood of Jesus helps us to prevail over anything, and we never have to fear anymore. Thank You for giving us this victory, Lord.

But thanks be to God!

Bound By Your Love

Dear God,

Please comfort my heart and give me complete understanding and assurance... In this spiritual family where we belong with Christ, I should feel that I am rich in love and compassion. Instead, some of the people are critical, cold, and self-serving... That hurts, Lord.

To be honest, You have seen me in my ugliest moments -- or when I myself am critical and outright bad. During these times I am reminded afterwards that it is my pride that more oftenly causes me to become critical of others. These people are my spiritual family, God. By finding fault in them I am setting a poor example of how to belong.

Real love is kind, not prideful or self-serving. God please fill me with compassion for my fellow Christians so that I may be a godly example of love and understanding -- especially to my DS and DD. There is nothing more that I want, than to emulate your Son, Jesus.

My goal is that they may be encouraged in heart
and united in love,
so that they may have the full riches
of complete understanding,
in order that they may know the mystery of God,
namely, Christ...

Your Everlasting Strength

Dear God,

Just how long is everlasting...? A million years...? A billion years...? A mega gazillion...? I cannot fully comprehend that length of time. And I know that my time is measured in hours, days, years, and sometimes even in minutes. Truly, the thought of "everlasting" is so vast, I cannot understand it. Explaining eternity to my DS and DD is almost impossible as I myself, could not totally grasp it.

But I can trust in You, Father, because Your strength never ever fails. It is here for all eternity. You do not weaken like I do. You are omnipotent...

The heroes that the world admire today have weaknesses. But not You, Lord. You are perfect. Your strength is everlasting. I want my DS and DD to trust You as their only hero -- their only all-wise, all-powerful, all-sufficient, mighty protector -- the One they can trust in forever and ever. I praise You, my God.

Thank You Father

Dear God,

Thank You for cleansing me of my evil ways and allowing me to come out of the darkness of sin and into the light of Your salvation. If I had nothing else for which to be thankful, that would be enough. I am so blessed to be one of Your children. Thank You, Father, that many of my friends and some of my family members have found this new life in You.

I am grateful that I have the opportunity to teach my DS and DD the truths found in Your Word. I am trusting that You will open their spiritual understanding. I am looking forward to the day they will truly understand what it is to accept You as their personal Lord and Savior, and be "partakers of the inheritance of the saints in light." From that day forward I will have something else for which to thank You.

Bearing The Burden

Dear God,

When you were in the garden, You prayed to have the cup of suffering taken from You. You understood sorrow, temptation, and all that we suffer here on Earth. Yet You also said in Lke 22:42, "Not my will but thine be done.""

A mother's burden can truly be heavy too, Jesus. There are days when I don't know how much longer I can go on. I try to hide this from my DS and DD, of course... So they won't get hurt too, but sometimes I just can't. The choices they sometimes make in their own lives may depend on the way I handle trials too.

Your Word says that You will provide a way of escape. You help us carry our burdens. There are others who have carried the same weight before me, and I know I must be strong. I want to lean on You, Father. Then I can also teach my DS and DD the joy of being able to trust in You completely.

No temptation has overtaken you
except what is common to mankind.
And God is faithful;
he will not let you be tempted

Instruction From Dad And Mom

Dear God,

When my DS or DD don't listen to me, I get so angry. I know I should be firmer with them and make them mind me, not ignore me, most especially at home. But sometimes, perhaps out of pure exhaustion from work, or maybe because I am sometimes too tired to get mad, my desire to discipline them melt away.

But what am I teaching them by doing this, I often reflect....? That's the problem. By allowing such leniency, I am giving them the idea that they don't have to abide by the rules. When they are grown, -- which time brings on very fast, -- they might believe that You don't require them to follow Your absolutes.

Lord, please give me the wisdom and strength in my instruction to my DS and DD. Please help me to be firm and consistent when I need to be, yet tender and giving as Your teaching allows. Guide me in how to show love for You and Your laws as well... Amen.

Being Blessed During Persecution

Dear God,

I don't exactly know how I can do this... How can I be blessed when, for example, people are upset with me, or dislike me because I believe in You? At times I also keep thinking of the way this is affecting my DS and DD. Because I want them to see me --- their Mother -- as a godly woman, but if they begin to doubt, then what...? Lord, please help my DS and DD to understand the need to suffer persecution at times, for Your sake...

When I put this into persepective, Lord, I know You suffered much more terrible persecution than I do sometimes. Although You were also tempted like us, You made the right choices. You didn't deserve what was done to You.

Please keep my faith, no matter what, Lord. When I am following You, I know I can be blessed, no matter what others say about me. Thank You, Jesus, for mapping the way for me and for my DS and DD...

The Most Secure Way

Dear God,

In my life, You are many times like an army surrounding me with Your awesome strength and power... an army that amazingly, cannot ever be defeated. I don't even have to depend on my limited might or abilities. You will always watch over me.

In these days of war and fighting around us, even my DS and DD notice the many uncertanties in our lives. When they become fearful, I can tell them how You are mightier than any army. You care for us all the way, and will surely be there when we need You.

During the times when I doubt, please remind me Lord, of this verse I have read for the day. Please bring it to my memory when I am afraid, uncertain, and scared. Teach me to draw on Your strength and fly above the storm so I can teach the same to my DS and DD. Thank You, Jesus...

Part Of spiritual Maturity

Dear God,

I really want to grow spiritually. I need to -- for my own daily walk with You and for my DS and DD, and most importantly , because You have commanded me to. I must be more like You each day... You have given me a list of characteristics that need to be present in my life for this kind of spiritual maturity to take place.

Part of that list is temperance -- or self-sontrol. That I think, is a really tough one. There are so many areas in my life that require self-control. Sometimes it is hard to keep all of those areas straight, let alone to put this command into practice. I know that You wouldn't have to include self-control in the list if it weren't important.

Lord, You have promised to give me the strength to fulfill Your commands. Thank You for giving me the strength I need to grow spiritually.

For this very reason,

Planting The Truth

Dear God,

Today we came from a short family outing. My kids came home without cleaning themselves up. As I "surveyed" them from head to toe, I know that even if I do not actually see the dirt, they are covered with it. Their clothes have it too, and I quickly asked them to remove it and sent them to bathe and clean themselves before anything else.

I thought of the verse for today as my DS and DD cleaned themselves one after the other in the bathroom. I am to cast aside sin as I cast aside their dirty clothing. Then You ask me to receive Your Word with meekness. My children don't always face a bath with meekness, yet they always feel, look, and smell so much better afterward.

I want to kick away those filthy habits and embrace the words You have implanted in me. Lord, please fill me with the words of truth that can save my soul. Amen.

Therefore, get rid of all moral filth
and the evil that is so prevalent
and humbly accept the word planted in you,
which can save you.

Your Supreme Sacrifice

Dear God,

I bow my head before You, Lord Jesus. Because You are sinless, but You took on my sins and that of the whole world, and I cannot think of the right words to thank You enough for Your supreme sacrifice.

This afternoon, DS, DD, and I talked about heaven, and how that place is -- it's purity, beauty, and perfection. We talked about how You were a willing servant to leave Your throne in heaven, come to Earth, and suffer unspeakable hardship -- and even more -- so that we all would have a way to spend eternity with You. Nothing else could be more beautiful and perfect than that act of love from You.

As for myself, Lord, I don't know if I will ever understand fully why You made that supreme sacrifice. I am unworthy of it, I know. But from my innermost being, I want to sing and shout praises to You, and to tell the whole world what You did for all of us.

He is the atoning sacrifice for our sins,
and not only for ours
but also for the sins of the whole world.

Sharing The Gift Of Salvation

Dear God,

I think my greatest responsibility as a Christian is to share the gift of salvation with other people. The Bible clearly says that it is not a choice or option. You love me as Your own daughter and saved me by Your grace and through faith alone.

Years ago, a classmate in College was willing to be a good steward of this wonderful gift that she shared Your gospel with me. Most of the time I fail and forget to minister this gift to others. Lord, I do not want to be guilty of such neglect and forgetfulness.

There is my family, my neighbors, even my own children -- so many precious people need to hear Your Word. they all need to have the same opportunity to accept You as their personal Lord and Savior. God, please make me attentive and at the same time, sensitive to each opportunity You prepare for me each day to share Your Word. Thank You, Father.

Praying For Those Who Lead

Dear God,

Sometimes I find myself hesitating at the thought of anyone, -- other than You of course, -- having to rule over me... I often think about wanting to submit to You alone and not have to listen to other people.

As I read my Bible about the Israelites in their journey in the wilderness, I clearly see that they are against Moses' leadership. But in truth, they were grumbling about You, Lord. When we complain about those in authority over us, it's almost the same as griping against You. Most of the time I find myself fall into that trap, Lord...

My DS and DD sould also learn to respect authority. In 1 Timothy 2:1-2, Your Word says that we should bless our leaders and those in authority and to respect them, because they are Yours. Their rule is not as hard to take when I am praying for them -- for you to guide them. Show me how to encourage and to be an inspiration of peace and submission in my family, God.

Now we ask you, brothers and sisters,
to acknowledge those who work hard among you,
who care for you in the Lord and who admonish you.
Hold them in the highest regard in love because of their work.
Live in peace with each other.

Patient Love

Dear God,

Thank You because You have given me a wonderful example of patient love. When I am losing patience with my own children, other people in the workplace, or even with random things happening in my life, I recall how long You have waited for me to repent and turn to You. I was so slow to do that, I know...

Despite my stubbornness, You waited for me. You love me even when I would not acknowledge You presence. My heart breaks with the weight of my sin against You, Lord. I praise You and thank You for being so enduring.

Just the same, I want to learn to endure for my DS's and DD's sake... When they both do wrong, I want them to admit it immediately and ask for forgiveness. From your example with me, I know there are times I need to wait for their repentance. Please help me wait, Lord.

To See My Heavenly Father

Dear God,

Of all the promises in Your Word, my quiet time for today seems to be the most amazing because I know that if I am pure in heart, I will one day see You. That truth fills me with awe, but there is another thing that to me is even more precious than that...

You know that my own heart is aything but pure, so You provided the most perfect way to purify it: You sent Your Son to take my wickedness upon Himself and to purify my heart with His blood. Sometimes this is hard for me to grasp and fathom...

I know You love Jesus far more than I will ever be able to love my own children, yet I cannot imagine having my own DS (or DD) take on himself the wickedness of others! What a supreme sacrifice, Father. How great is Your love for me.

Good Friday Reflections

Dear God,

How can my heart be perfect toward You...? On my own I am nothing. Useless. Empty. Zero. Only through You am I complete and made whole. Please direct and guide my steps, Father.

My reflection for today, Good Friday, tells me You are watching. You know and see the numerous times that I sin and when I cover it most of the time. But here at home, in front of DS and DD -- these are some of my worst times. And it makes me sad and so disappointed with myself when I don't set a good example for them.

Lord, please make my heart perfect. I know I am still a long way from it, but take my hand, hold it, and give me strength. Be strong for me when I don't measure up -- which is most of the time -- I know that the only way to achieve my goal is through You alone, so please don't take Your eyes away from me... More than anywhere else, I want and need a heart from you in my home. Thank You, Father.

Don't Fall

Dear God,

You have given us so many warnings about the dangers and pitfalls of pride, but many times, it seems we pay so little attention to them. I know that for myself, this is very true. Some days I'll start thinking that I have really arrived... I have met so many of my goals in life, and although I am far from perfect, I know tht I am a fairly strong individual. My DS and DD are the best, and life, no matter how rough, is rather great. I begin to take credit for things when I should be glorifying You. And about the time it starts happening, I crash or fall flat on my face.

Father, I know I should have learned my lesson by now, but even in that area, I'm too proud. Falling hurts, and just like everybody, I don't like it a bit. And I don't like letting pride control me. Please forgive me, Lord, and help me get rid of the pride in my life.

A Go-Between Prayer

Dear God,

I am aware that one of the greatest gifts you have given us, Your children, is the Holy Spirit, to step-in for us during prayer time. You very know, Lord, that for many times I have stopped and prayed for the Holy Spirit to take over the reigns for me... Sometimes I get confused about the matter I am praying for, and I am almost always at a loss for words on how to pray for my request properly.

Other times it is somewhat like the feeling of fear that prevents me from putting words into my prayers. I know that it has been especially true because I have tried to completely give my DS and DD to You, and I wanted to hoard and care for them myself, especially when they are away for me. Occasionally I try to pray and say what I need or desire, and I just get stuck.

Being Happy Through Perseverance

Dear God,

Whining all day. That's all I ever seem to do. I'm pretty sure You get tired of me never being satisfied on so many things. When things are going well, I complain about not getting the right amount of spiritual growth in my life. Or worse, about not getting more of the good fortune. And when things are going wrong, I complain about the trial. Oftentimes I think about how You can still love me when I am so weak and impatient to be more like You each day.

Today, I was cranky and unpleasant to DS and DD. Both of them were sort of whining because they wanted their own way on something. I clearly saw myself reflected in both of them. Then I remembered Your prophets and soon realized how my very own troubles are nothing compared to others.

Please make my complaining heart still, Lord. Fill me instead with rejoicing. You are refining me each day, I know, and I want to teach my children patience by my own example. Give me the strength I need for this task, God.

As you know, we consider blessed
those who have persevered.
You have heard of Job's perseverance
and have seen what the Lord finally brought about.

Teaching DS And DD Obedience

Dear God,

I personally think that my quiet time for today is every parent's favorite pasage in the Bible. As parents we all want these to become our kids' life verses. The thing is, we seem to just expect it to happen right on... We fail or most of the time forget to realize that we, too, as parents, need to have an active part in this obedience.

I want DS and DD to know what DH and I expect from both of them and then obey (especially without delay!). Lord, please guide and support us to build and establish the right reward and discipline system. For me, I guess the most difficult virtue of this education is our own consistency. DH and I really need strength in that area, Lord.

I also need to show DS and DD how important obedience is by being obedient myself - to You and to others in authority over me. Thank You for helping me in this effort.

That Kind Of Family Faith

Dear God,

Reading about Timothy in the Bible makes me admire him a lot. Timothy was a man full of deep faith, and that very faith came from his grandmother, who passed it on to his mother, who in turn, also passed it on to Timothy! And because of that unwavering faith, Timothy was able to accomplish great things for You.

When DS and DD all grown up, I also want them to serve you, Lord. But I know that they can only do that if they have true faith in You alone. Please guide me so that I can be an example to them, like Eunice was to Timothy. And when that time comes into my life too, let me be an example to my grandchildren as well!

What greater task could I have than to make sure DS and DD are introduced to You, especially during their growing up years? Help me live so that they will want this kind of faith in You.

I am reminded of your sincere faith,

and in your mother Eunice and,

1. I'm having... Cold bottled water.

2. I'm feeling... Okay; although I feel a certain sadness in my heart because DH's 102 year-old Grandma passed away last Monday, Nov. 1st. She was a dear old lady who was loved by many, especially by her grandchildren and great-grandchildren (that includes my DS and DD). Although she was blessed to live a full life and enjoyed the love of her family, we will all still miss her. I know she is happier now with the Lord.

3. On my mind... Finishing a request by my sister-in-law to make a power point tribute to our Lola (Grandma), to be shown this Saturday, during the last night of her wake. He remains will be buried this Sunday in the Chinese Cemetery, where the rest of DH's dearly departed are.

His divine power has given us everything we need

I just want to reminisce the good old sweet times when my DS, who just turned 12 yesterday (Oct. 31), was a tiny baby... He is now a tween, and just a year away from becoming a teenager. God has blessed us with so much through DS, and we are grateful and thankful. The glory and honor of being DS's parents are His.

Dear Friends,

I would like to introduce my dear daughter, Gina to you. She is 8 years old, and is just starting to learn how to blog. I would appreciate it if you could join me in welcoming her by visiting her own site, DANCING QUEEN. Am sure leaving a kind note of encouragement would thrill her. :)

Yes, she is our little dancing queen. She has been into ballet since she was 4 years old, and is currently studying the Royal Academy of Dance (RAD) ballet syllabus in STEPS Dance Studio.

She is happiest when performing onstage, and that is why we always remind her that someday, she must use her talent in giving glory and honor to the Lord. May she grow up to be a woman beautiful in God's eyes. :)

A good woman is hard to find,

Dear God,

Thank You for this special day. Another year is added to my life and once again, I feel nostalgic and at the same time hopeful for more blessings to come after this year. One year ago today was my bithday, and I opened this blog by transferring from another social site to Blogger. Seems like only yesterday, but I actually completed 52 weeks of writing about my hopes, and dreams, and prayers to You.

I feel that I need to share more about myself to others, to be more personal this time in letting others inside my private little world. So for the meantime, I will devote Like Showers on New Grass to memes, and open my new personal/family blog, STORIES FROM MY GARDEN to others.

May I be able to reach out to a lot of people too in that site, as I let them in my world this side of the planet, and be able to make more friends in blogsphere.

Thank You, Father, for many opportunities to serve You more each day. May we all become instruments of Your love as we meet people and visit places. I love you, Lord.

Outside my window... Clear blue skies...

I am thinking... How wonderful it is to spend time with family during semestral break!

I am thankful for... Restful days like these.

I am remembering... To lose weight and do some walking after my birthday on the 27th, and DS's on the 31st. :)

I am going... To start walking seriously again to manage my Type 2 Diabetes.

I am reading... Birthday cards for me and DS sent by my Mom in NJ, and birthday messages via email and Facebook. :)

I am hoping... Semestral vacations from school could be longer than just a week.

On my mind... Where to eat and celebrate tomorrow -- my birthday. Praise God for another blessed year.

Noticing that... The weather could be cold now, and warm tomorrow. So haywire...

My Calling

Dear God,

Sometimes I think that a lot of people do not fully understand that the call to motherhood comes from You. They just don't quite understand how much work goes into this blessed vocation. At times it's hard for me -- and other Moms, am sure -- because some people expect us to drop whatever we are doing to meet their wants and needs.

And so there are times when I feel like I want to scream, "Hey, being a Mom and taking care of my kids is a time-consuming and exhausting (serious) business!" I either want to feel sorry for myself or pat myself on the back for dedicating my life to motherhood. But, God, I know that both attitudes are not proper in Your eyes.

I should learn to accept my calling with a meek and humble spirit. Only when my outlook becomes Christlike will I truly be considered worthy of this kind of calling.

As a prisoner for the Lord,
then, I urge you to live a life
worthy of the calling you have received.
Be completely humble and gentle;
be patient, bearing with one another in love.

Your Sacrificial Love

Dear God,

Thank You for the sacrificial love that Your Son, Jesus, gave me. Thank You also for the great example of true love that You have shown.

Father, I know that true love requires the giving of one's self. Everyday, since becoming a parent, I have been learning where that might be true in parenting. Having DS and DD brought about so many changes in my life. They have all been worthwhile, of course, but that does not really mean my experiences have been easy and breezy... A certain amount of freedom had to be surrendered or given up... My schedule had to be renovated in order to meet the demands of the kids. Funny as it may sound, but even basic tasks like grocery shopping had a new level of difficulty. But these many changes are all worthwhile when I look at their happy smles and faces, or when I feel their soft, warm arms around my body and neck. Love is simply beautiful! Thank You, Lord, for Love.

Alone Yet Not Truly Alone

Dear God,

This week has been a bit tough for my DD. Something in school happened and at one time she felt so alone because some friends have deserted her. My heart aches at the hurt and pain I see reflected on her small face. I simply want to make it all go away -- to erase the incident in her memory...

Tonight, after school, we talked about how Jesus was abandoned by everyone when he faced the cross... Jesus' darkest hour, the time He needed His friends the most, yet they all left Him in that garden... Even so, He was not alone. Because God, You were there with Jesus. You were a comfort to Your Son, Jesus.

I see my DD getting comfort and solace from this passage tonight. The loneliness, I know, will soon pass. Her friends will one day return. But most of all, DD learned that You are always beside her. This is one lesson she won't soon forget. Thank You, Jesus, for setting the perfect example.

But a time is coming, and has come,

Dear God,

My verse for today is from the parable that shows an understandable image of faithfulness to You and the joy that comes from that kind of faithfulness. Like the servant in the story, You have given me work to do and fulfill. I know that I am called to live my life in the way that all Christians are commanded to live.

My responsibility also includes being a godly wife and bringing up DS and DD according to Your Word. I should do everything I do in the way that gives honor and glory to You.

The promised result is eternal joy which brings a great amount of high hope to my heart. What is even more inspiring is that if I am faithful in these tasks, You will trust me with others. Then there will be even more of Your joy to experience.

A More Beautiful Place

Dear God,

This evening after work, I went to the wake of my student's Grandad. Her Mom is also my friend. I know it is heartbreaking to lose a grandparent; much more a parent. I know that the death of someone we love so dearly is one of the heartbreaking things to cope with. I know the Grandad of my student is in heaven, but I selfishly want that person to still be here with her. We can gain comfort from reading Psalm 116:15. Please help me help my adolescent student to rejoice instead of feeling sorry for herself.

DS and DD are also watching my reactions. I can see it in their eyes -- even in their somewhat solemn attitude as DH and the kids dropped me off to the wake and I went down the car. Their reactions now, and as adults, hinge so much on the way I react to the trials other people surrounding me face. Please continue to help me set a good example.

God, fill me with the joy that comes from knowing You are my God for ever and ever. You won't desert me. When death does come, You will be there to guide me to a place more beautiful than I can ever imagine.

For this God is our God for ever and ever;
he will be our guide even to the end.

Taking You At Your Word

Dear God,

Once again I have realized that in order for me to have a close and intimate relationship with You, I have to completely trust You and take You at Your Word. Too often, and many times, I only partly trust You.

For example, when You say (in 2 Cor. 12:9), "My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness," my mind screams out in all directions, "God, I do not understand! One of my kids is not obeying me again, one is having health problems, I am surrounded by insensitive, uncaring people in my workplace, I am completely exhausted, and I do not understand how any good can come out of this."

I am ashamed to let You or my Christians friends know, but I have to admit, Lord, that at times I have a difficult time taking You at Your Word. Please show me how to trust You more, even when my mind cannot grasp it and my heart cannot accept it.

As for God, his way is perfect;
the word of the LORD is flawless.
He is a shield
for all who take refuge in him.

Peaceful And Quiet Leadership

Dear God,

I am not a King or a Queen, nor am I even close to being a member of any royalty, or a person who has that kind of big power. However, I do have authority over DS and DD. When DH is not around, I am the only one they both look up to for leadership.

Lord, there are many times when I don’t really feel very peaceable and quiet. The kids aren’t peaceable and quiet too. Some days they can’t seem to settle down; they argue, or simply always disagree with each other, or they do not perform the responsibilities expected of them at home or perhaps reach their goals in their school work too... When those days happen, I feel that godliness is so very unattainable and hard to achieve. Seems like it is more of an idealistic thought that is so hard to reach, rather than the lifestyle that it should be. I can understand why some leaders become harsh and somewhat calloused toward the people they lead...

Lord, please help me to achieve and maintain godliness even on difficult, low days. Assist me and guide me in bringing peace to my home. Thank You.

Teaching Gentleness To My Children

Dear God,

My quiet time verse for todsy seems like a long list of "To Do's" that I should be teaching DS and DD, especially when it is added to the many other things Your Word instructs me to instill in their young (and growing!) lives... Sitting down and relishing it more, I find that it is not that overwhelming though, and I realize if these principles are present in my life and obvious in my behavior, then it would be the best intsruction I can give to DS and DD. The thing there is to make sure that I am applying the principles to my own life...

The first half of this list is not really tough -- perhaps because they are not as personal. But then it becomes a bit harder when it concerns my relationship with other people.

Even so, God, I want to teach my kids to be kind and gentle, and I want to be the right example for them (no matter how difficult it may be for me to try to exhibit those virtues). Please help me and show me the way, Lord...

Remind the people to be subject to rulers and authorities,
to be obedient, to be ready to do whatever is good,
to slander no one, to be peaceable and considerate,
and to show true humility toward all men.

Compassion For The Poor

Dear God,

Every year, as the Christmas season approaches, a growing number of people, or establishments would ask for donations for the poor. Sometimes, support also comes from the church and various religious organizations.

Sometimes I become a bit doubtful especially when I am bombarded by those who "solicit" left and right. Please help me not to feel and think that way. It is true that I cannot give to each and every cause, or to all people who need my help. It is also a known fact nowadays, that not all causes or charity drives are legitimate. So by that I need Your wisdom and discernment to know what my part should be.

I do not want to be judgmental no matter how tempted I am to be, but sometimes it seems the very cause of poverty is laziness on the part of the parents, which eventually results to suffering in the family. Lord, help me not to add up to a poor child's suffering by thinking more of his or her parents' neglect and less of that child's need. After all, I wouldn't want that for my DS and DD.

I ask for a compassionate and discerning heart in knowing how much to give to others; add to that blessings from You, to be a blessing to others too. Thank You, Lord.

Blessed is he who has regard for the weak;
the Lord delivers him in times of trouble.

All Good Things From You

Dear God,

I praise and worship You. Thank You for all the wonderful things You have blessed me and my family with.

A few days ago, I was feeling down and discouraged. As a Mom and as a Christian, I felt like a complete failure. Life and its complexities weighed me down and I just couldn't see anything You have planned and accomplished for me. Then I thought of opening and reading my old quiet time notebook and everything unfolded out in my mind. I started to remember all the blessings I have received from You since way back when and now... I realized that You had actually fulfilled so many of Your promises to me.

The miracle of having DS and DD are one of those big blessings, Lord. Please make ma a blessing to my kids too... One day, when they are older, I will share my list of blessings to them, and allow them to see my little notebook of good things from You. I want to teach them to count all the beautiful things You have also brought to pass for them. Thank You, Lord.

Now I am about to go the way of all the earth.

Teaching How To Forgive

Dear God,

My quiet time verse for today is a very popular one, perhaps especially to children. I also remember it is one of the very first ones I've learned to memorize when I became a Christian and started reading the Bible. But I've also noticed that oftentimes, the verse is used to talk about kindness alone. The other virtues listed -- compassion and forgiveness -- are usually overlooked.

I know that when kids are young and not being mature yet in heart and mind, it is important for us adults to "break" things or ideas down in order for them to fully understand and grasp certain truths like so. Being DS and DD's Mom, I pray that I will not forget or neglect to teach them each concept of Your Word, no matter how old they are. DS is already quite a few years away from becoming a teen, and DD is a little lady, being only 8 years old, but still, I believe that they need to be reminded and taught of every truth behind Your Words.

Father, I know that You will give me plenty of golden opportunities to help my children understand kindness, compassion, and -- in a home with two kids who are uniquely dfferent from one another -- forgiveness. I have learned from experience that forgiveness is one of the greatest kindnesses a person could thoughtfully offer.

Be kind and compassionate to one another,
forgiving each other,
just as in Christ God forgave you.

Your Love Conquers

Dear God,

Some things cause us to have many fears -- When we hear strange noises outside our homes at night, our heart somehow pounds and we begin to think of scary things happening by our front steps... When my kids were very young and little, they cry or whimper when the lights are turned off, or when there is a power failure... When we hear peole make threats, we tremble or worry in fear... When we know about gunshots or road rages happening even in the broadest of day... When we watch and hear horrible things on the news, we worry and think of what could happen... My kids reflect my fear...

I know that that kind of spirit is not, in anyway, from You, God. The verse which is my quiet time message for today talks to me about power and Your great love. I can have a sound mind and the perfect peace that transcends understanding.

I can now smile... My kids laugh with me now... They are no longer filled with fear or uncertainty when they see me and DH trusting in You. Lord, You are our tower of strength, our stronghold. We can shout and sing and praise You for that promise.

For God did not give us a spirit of timidity,
but a spirit of power,
of love and of self-discipline.

Waiting For You

Dear God,

Waiting is not one of my virtues. It is not an easy thing for me, either. I guess that seems especially true when I am waiting for You to answer my prayers. Sometimes I find myself wondering if You have even heard my prayers.

When we were informed last time that DD most likely had scoliosis, we were so worried and afraid it would be painful and hard, and that it would prohibit her from doing the things she loved to do most. We waited for the doctor to give us an answer, and we prayed that we would quickly know her condition. The whole week of waiting for lab results, counting the hours everyday, and waiting for the doctor's diagnosis at the end of that week left us in a difficult, uncertain situation. of course You knew that our DD would be fine, but You reminded us at that time, that our faith must be in You and that You will answer our prayers in Your timing. I pray for that truth to be always in my heart and mind, as I continue to wait for You in all things surrounding my life. Thank You, Father, for the reminder.

1. I'm having... (Just) cold water from my Coleman jug in school... This week is a bit draining as we had to talk to most of our students who are not doing well in school academics...

2. I'm feeling... Hopeful my students will not fail my upcoming 3rd Long Exam, as it will surely pull their grades up before the end of the trimester, and before we get ready with their grades for the Parent-Student-Teacher Conference this September 23rd...

3. On my mind... To rest and be with my family. Thank God it is a holiday tomorrow!

Striving To Be Perfect

Dear God,

As always, the word "Perfection" is something I often doubt I can ever attain. It is also true that I would like my kids to be perfect -- I mean, who wouldn't like that...? No Mom likes to think her children are so imperfect that her kids might do something bad or embarrassing, especially in the presence of other people.

Reflecting more on that thought, I guess that must be how You feel too, Lord. I am pretty sure my behavior has caused You so much embarrassment --- even after You have told me in Your Word that I should strive to be perfect. You gave Yourself as a shining example of whom I should follow and emulate. Lord please guide me daily to commit to being perfect, as You are perfect. I know I cannot expect my DS and DD to be perfect if I am not willing to set the example myself. Please help me Father, as I strive to be like You in all ways.

Be perfect, therefore,
as your heavenly Father is perfect.
